The app
Glimmer analyses, edits and exports your video on your own PC. Your video is never uploaded.
What does the license check send?
For the free trial and license keys, Glimmer talks to its license server (license.glimmerhighlights.com, hosted on Cloudflare). It sends:
- An ID for this PC, made from the Windows installation ID with a one-way hash.
- One-way hashes of hardware serial numbers (system, motherboard, BIOS). They recognise the same PC after Windows is reinstalled and tie a key to the PC it was activated on.
- For each video you analyse or export during the free trial: its length and a one-way hash of its file size and length. Never the file, its name or its content.
- Your license key, when you activate it, and every 14 days to renew it while you are online.
The server also sees your IP address, like any website. It stores only a keyed hash of it, which can't be turned back into the address, to limit free trials, key attempts and keys shared around per network. Those records are deleted after 30 days (key attempts after one hour, the networks a key was used from after a day).
The free hours need this connection when you analyse or export; without it, those wait until you are back online. With a key, Glimmer works offline for up to 90 days between checks.
Keys are sold and checked through Creem, which stores your key and the PCs it is active on.
Removing a license from a PC
In Glimmer, Settings, License: "Remove from this PC" frees the key so you can use it on another PC.
